  • Most of us women know the story of the sisters, Mary and Martha. Jesus is sitting at the home of his dear friends, Lazarus and his two sisters. Martha is frustrated because she is busy preparing dinner for Jesus while Mary sits at his feet: “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,  but few things are needed...Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42

But there is more to Martha. After her brother, Lazarus dies, she is the one who runs to Jesus to beg him for her brother's life: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. ... Do you believe this?”  “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” John 11:25-27
